A metal thread was incorporated into the Blue & Pink Emergency Issue notes. This had been invented by S.B Chamberlain. There were two sites where the notes were printed, Old Street in London and Overton in Hampshire.
5,380 million of the B249 notes were printed from 29 March 1940. They remained legal tender until 28th May 1962.
